One Hundred Years
McKinley Memorial Library
1908-2008
McKinley Memorial Library
will be 100 years old in September 2008!
In September 1908, the first Public Library in Niles opened.
Of course, it wasnt located where it is now (the Memorial wasnt built
until 19151917).
The original library was located in a rent free room owned by W. A.
Thomas on the bend of Mill Street (East State Street).
When the Thomas building was sold, the library moved to the Guarnieri
building on the Memorial site until the Library wing
of the Memorial was completed.1
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of McKinley Memorial Library, the
Library will be hosting a series of special events
starting this September and culminating in September 2008. In addition
to these special activities, displays will be created
in the Library illustrating how the Library has changed during the last
100 years.
