McKinley Educational Lesson Plans
Grade
Level 3
State Standard:
History #3: Describe changes in a community over time including
changes in businesses, architecture, physical features,
employment, education, transportation,
technology,
religion, and recreation.
Objective: By touring the McKinley Birthplace Home, students will be able to
mentally, and visually compare lifestyles of the 19th and 21st
centuries.
Before the Tour:

Discuss what students may already
know about life in the 1800’s.

Begin a KWL chart on board or large
paper.
After the Tour:
-
Finish KWL chart.

Make a Venn diagram on board or
large paper comparing life then and now. Make sure to include any
similarities. For example, children going to school, chores, and some
students may share a room with a sibling.

These educational lesson plans are designed for Grades 3, 4, 9, and 10
to aid teachers in instruction about President William McKinley
in conjunction with the McKinley Birthplace Home & Research Center.
