History: #1. Define and
measure time by years, decades, centuries.
#2. Place
local historical events in sequential order on
a timeline.
#3. Describe changes in a community over time
including
changes in businesses, architecture, physical features,
employment, education,transportation, technology,
religion, and recreation.
Objective: The student will create a timeline of William McKinley’s life in
Niles before the Presidency, presidential terms, and his affect on Niles after
his death.
Materials: Video- The American
President: William McKinley, Reluctant Apostle 1897 – 1901
Paper, Pencils,
Ruler
Procedure:

Introduce William McKinley and
explain why he is an important part of the history of Niles, Ohio.

Watch video. (10 min. in length)
-
Review with students important
highlights from the film, listing important dates and events on board.

Create timeline from given
information.

These educational lesson plans are designed for Grades 3, 4, 9, and 10
to aid teachers in instruction about President William McKinley
in conjunction with the McKinley Birthplace Home & Research Center.
